Richard R Wilson Oct 6 1937-Feb 20th 2007. Born in Schenectady Dick graduated high school and joined the Air Force. After he served four years he accepted a position at Griffiss AFB Rome NY working for the FAA as a Radar Electronics Technician. He married Jeanette Coote on June 24th 1961 and together they had three daughters. Ruth Wilson, Sandy Wilson Gallagher and Judy Wilson Pawlikowski all of Rome NY.
Dick was an avid lover of Covered Bridges. He was a charter member and past treasurer of the NYSCBS. He also served as historian and was the President of the Society for 25 years. He had an extensive postcard collection and wrote a book "New York States Covered Bridges." A Postcard History Series published by Arcadia. Dick was also a photographer and provided his photographs for the book Covered Bridges of New York State. A guide by author Rick L. Berfield. Mr. Wilson had postcards published of his photographs as well.
Mr. Wilsons greatest joy beside his family was the preservation of covered bridges. He worked toward that goal for most of his life. He was friends with author Richard Sanders Allen and they shared a friendship and love of covered bridges that lasted until Dicks death.
Mr Wilsons postcard credits include all three Wash Co NY bridges. Shushan, Eagleville and Rexleigh. A 150th Anniversary postcard of the Blenheim CB. Hamden CB Delaware Co NY and Salisbury Center Herkimer Co Ny. Dicks wife and 3 daughters are pictured in the Salisbury Center postcard.
